Your practical exam, commonly referred to as your check
ride, is the last step in achieving your pilot
certificate or rating. Overall, the check ride is an
opportunity for the examiner to verify you possess all
the knowledge and skills necessary set forth by the
FAA. The best place to find specifically what will be
required of you, the applicant, is the Practical Test
Standards or PTS. The PTS is the FAA guidelines and
requirements published for each type of certificate or
rating. You will find direct links to the FAA PTS below
for all the certificates and ratings that I am
authorized to issue.
Although it is difficult not to be a little nervous
during any type of exam, by reviewing the PTS and the
information outlined here on this website, you can gain
a great deal of comfort by knowing what to expect and
encounter fewer “surprises”. As someone who has taken
too many check rides to count, I understand your
feelings leading up to the check ride. I will do all I
can to keep you comfortable and relaxed as possible
during our meeting. However, this starts with you being
prepared, and with me providing as much necessary
information as I can before we meet. Take time to click
on the link below for the check ride you will soon be
taking and review what you can expect for that check
ride. Additionally, review the respective PTS with your
instructor. By being prepared and knowing what to
expect, your check ride should a fun and pleasant
learning experience!
In any case, please feel free to
contact me via email or cell if you have any questions
throughout your training or preparing for your exam. I
look forward to hearing from you!
